The Power of Sujood
Mar 06, 2024Assalaau'alaykum,
What happens to our souls when we lower ourselves in Sujood?
As we step into our prayers, most of us have a simple goal: to stand with mindfulness and connection. However, in today's chaotic world, it's a challenge and feels almost impossible to achieve. Our minds are like overstretched containers, filled with worries, to-do lists, and worldly problems.
There seems to be no end to the relentless demands that tug at our attention, making it harder to find the tranquillity we seek in our prayers.
However, one mindful intention before entering the prayer can make all the difference - in that we must believe.
As we say takbeer, we make a declaration.
We declare to the world, its inhabitants, and everything we own that NOTHING is more important than Allah SWT, our Lord, our Creator.
As our foreheads touch the ground, it symbolises the utmost reverence and surrender which reinforces our connection with the One Who holds the highest significance in our lives.
In that moment of sujood, we're truly reminded that Allah, our Creator takes precedence over all worldly possessions and concerns.
Prayer lets us detach from worldly concerns, transcending our physical experiences to enter a realm felt within our hearts.
We connect with the deeper part of who we are, beyond the everyday aspects of life. Prayer becomes a sanctuary where the distractions of the world fade away and our souls find solace in the profound connection with Allah.
When we bow down in prostration, we are closest to our Lord. Imagine feeling that closeness with Allah SWT! Picture the intense joy, profound nearness, and wonderment that arises from being near the One you cherish.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The closest a servant is to their Lord is when they are in prostration."
How blessed are we to have this opportunity five times a day, every day? To step into a divine domain and draw near to our Rabb al-'alamin (Lord of the worlds).
Isn't that feeling worth dedicating a minute or two before saying takbeer? To engage all our senses, especially our heart, in preparation for this beautiful meeting.
As we step into Ramadan, let's begin contemplating our priorities and Ibaadah. This month is a beautiful opportunity for our spiritual growth. Let's use it to make an effort to connect with Allah more deeply during this time of the year.
Let's take a moment before we start praying to quiet our minds and open our hearts. Let's ask Allah to help us focus and feel His presence throughout our prayer.
May every sujood bring us closer to our Creator, filling our hearts and souls with peace and tranquillity. Ameen!
