Today, on the 17th of Ramadan, we mark a pivotal moment in our faith's history - the Battle of Badr.
At the Battle of Badr, the Muslims found themselves greatly outnumbered, lacking adequate manpower, weaponry and horsepower compared to their well-equipped adversaries.
From all worldly perspectives, the Muslims were clearly at a significant disadvantage, facing what seemed like an insurmountable situation that would inevitably lead to defeat…
Similarly, we see many other moments in our Islamic history where circumstances appeared dire and hopeless.
Take, for instance, the story of David (Dawud AS) confronting Goliath (Jalut), a formidable giant and ruthless oppressor.
Dawud (AS) faced ridicule, laughter and dismissal from his enemies because of his youth, slender build and reliance on a sling and a handful of stones.
Again, from a worldly perspective, Dawud (as) appeared no match for such a cruel tyrant.
Despite their glaring disadvantages, the Muslims emerged victorious in Badr and Dawud (AS) achieved a stunning victory over Jalut with just a single slingshot.
Above the armour and weaponry, they waged their battle with a force invisible to the human eye – they fought with unwavering faith and tawakkul (Trust in Allah).
With a deep-seated desire and unyielding determination, they pressed forward to protect their religion, land and people, all in devotion to their Lord.
Their hearts were filled with conviction, believing firmly in the absolute will and power of Allah 'azza wajal being with them.
Due to their profound faith, Allah altered the natural laws of the earth and imbued a single stone with unnatural immense force. He SWT dispatched an invincible army of angels to join the believers in battle and instilled an undeniable spirit in the hearts of the brave.
What we learn from this is that in life, we may encounter our own "battle of Badr" facing situations where the odds seem overwhelmingly against us.
However, these historical events serve as a potent reminder that in the face of any adversity, with unwavering faith in Allah and a steadfast spirit, He SWT can alter natural laws, transform hearts and even send down His angels to strengthen our position.
It teaches us the importance of trust, perseverance and reliance on Allah's divine guidance and assistance during challenging times.
Whether the battle is external or internal, you can always remain hopeful for a positive outcome and approach each moment with a heart filled with yaqeen (certainty) that Allah, Ar-Raqib (The Watchful One) and Al-Alim (The All Knowing) is aware and responsive to our needs.
As we witness the unbearable atrocities unfolding in the world today, we find solace in knowing that no matter how formidable the enemy appears, the faith of the people and the Will of Allah are infinitely greater.
Just as history has shown us, the Help of Allah is near.
