Which perspective do you choose?

May 15, 2024

Assalaamu'alaykum,

Every moment is brimming with countless blessings, far beyond what you can tally or comprehend. These blessings are like hidden treasures that await your discovery.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“And He gave you from all you asked of Him. And if you should count the favor [i.e., blessings] of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.” {14:34}

Staying in the moment and connected to these blessings is where our love for Allah grows and inner happiness is found.

But we often divert our attention from this pursuit.

When we pray to Allah and then tie it to a specific outcome, we keep watch, expecting that exact thing to manifest before us. If it doesn't materialise, our hearts fill with sadness, regret, and disappointment. We become oblivious to everything else around us.

Let’s take a step back to truly internalise a profound reality.

The reality that Allah consistently responds, gently reminding us time and again, encouraging us to expand our minds, open our eyes and above all, unlock our hearts to His myriad ways of answering our prayers.

Which of His favours can you already see?

What awaits your discovery?

Take a broader view, step away from a narrow perspective and find joy in acknowledging Allah's blessings scattered around you like autumn leaves gently drifting down.

What you see is your choice.

To either gaze downward at the ground and see only rocks and soil along your path or raise your eyes to the magnificent expansive sky with all its diverse and vibrant colours.

In every challenge, you can fixate on the negatives or seek the goodness that still envelopes you, even in the most trying moments.

Feeling positive and grateful is within reach for everyone, but it's not a path you stumble upon—it's one you actively pursue with each step taken.

Reflection of the Week
If you're waiting for a duaa to be answered:

  • Contemplate all the experiences you currently have that are already duaas answered.
  • Spend a moment in stillness to thank Allah for His immense favours.

Dua of the Week

Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.
