When Allah wills something to exist, it exists

Apr 03, 2025

Assalaamu'alaykum,

Some of you may recall I wrote about my experience with a camel on a recent trip to the Middle East.

I had intended to ride one of these remarkable desert creatures and even took a photo right in front of one, but in the end, I never actually got to sit on one during that particular trip :) All for khayr.

But I shared the story with you as a reflection on how sometimes you can see something so clearly in front of you, touch it even, but if it’s not written for you, it will never be yours to have in that moment.

Recently, I had another small but thought-provoking experience that reminded me of the Might and Power of Allah SWT, and I’d love to share it with you today.

I absolutely love nature. Being surrounded by greenery and nature’s beauty is where I feel most free of worldly stresses and closest to Allah SWT.

There are a few parks within walking distance of my home, but none compelling enough to inspire regular daily walks.

I used to make duaa that one day I would live within walking distance of a large, beautiful park with deer, open fields filled with trees of all shapes, sizes and colours and inspiring walking paths surrounded by Allah’s wonderous nature.

A couple of weeks ago, I was walking along the main high street of my small town with my sister when she suggested we take a look down a small side road that ended with a small black gate, one I had overlooked many times before.

I was in awe of what we discovered. Behind this inconspicuous little black gate, was the rear entrance to a breath taking and renowned deer park.

As I stepped inside, I saw deer leisurely roaming about, picturesque walking trails, babbling water streams, and vast fields adorned with lush greenery... SubhanAllah I was left speechless.

All this, just a mere 10 minute walk from my home.

In that moment, I was reminded of something so powerful.

We might feel a strong desire for something, but from our limited human perspective, we may struggle to see how it’s possible or even imagine a way for it to happen.

In those moments, we must remember that we should never underestimate the power of Allah ‘azza wajal and assume that our limited vision determines what we will receive.

Allah, the Almighty, has unlimited ability, power and resources and will provide for us in ways and from places that we could’ve never imagined. We just need to hold the faith and keep asking from Him.

It is possible that the thing you desire may appear from a source that you could’ve never anticipated, even right at your doorstep.

I’m happy to say that I haven’t stopped going to that park since and each time I do, I thank Allah for the ni’mah (gift) and remind myself of His boundless mercy, He truly is Al Wahhab – The Giver of gift.

I remind myself to persist in making tireless duaa, even if what I’m asking for seems impossible, as everything we desire is just behind a simple command of "kun."

Kun fayakun (Be! And it is) is a great source of hope and inspiration. As Allah SWT says in the Qur’an:

“All it takes, when He wills something ˹to be˺, is simply to say to it: “Be!” And it is!” (36:82)
